Just about every culture holds its own ideas about motherhood, ideal parents, and good children, and conveys these in images. In the exhibition we go in search of these images and ideas. In the workshop we use origami techniques to make picture frames for our drawings and photographs.

Workshop for adults
In Japan, the wrapping is part of the gift
30 November 2019, 11:00 AM - 16:00 PM

Japanese men and women pay as much attention to a present’s wrapping as to the gift itself. We show and explain various knotting and folding techniques with which objects of varying shapes and sizes can be wrapped in style. A gift acquires special meaning if it is wrapped in a furoshiki, a square cloth, instead of paper.

Thirst for Knowledge meets Collecting Mania
15 December 2019, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Museums are facing challenging times: what seemed a must for an ethnographic museum in the past – for example, a collection of human skulls – is now a sensitive issue. The guided tour explores the motives behind the collecting mania of earlier days and poses questions as to the appropriate handling of sensitive objects today.

On this joint tour, parents and children together get to know stories, objects, and images that tell about family life across the globe.
