Thirst for Knowledge meets Collecting Mania

22 March 2019 – 22 November 2020

Extended until 22 November 2020

The tasks of collecting, preservation, research, and education pose a huge challenge for museums. The provenance of objects has become a major issue in recent years and will continue to do so. As this is precisely the topic of the current exhibition and thus of great relevance to viewers, we have decided to extend the show. It grants visitors important insights into the work of museums.

Intervention in the exhibition

A part of the exhibition “Voices from an archived silence”, which was shown at the Basel Theatre until 13 March, is now included in the show “Thirst for Knowledge Meets Collecting Mania”. In it the artist Deneth Piumakshi Wedaarachchige provocatively confronts attributions made by the Sarasins in 3-D print; Ryser+Schonfeldt address the colonial entanglement of collectors and collections in their piece “We wish we had heard you say…”
