Sun, Moon and Stars

18 August 2017 – 20 January 2019

Even though distant, the sun, moon and stars make up part of our human world. Cultures across the globe confer on the heavenly bodies meaning and significance, for example, in the shape of sun and moon calendars. However, notions vary, as do ideas about gender: some peoples venerate a sun god, others worship a moon goddess. Objects from the collections explain how we humans see, understand and even try to influence the celestial bodies.
