For many decades the Museum der Kulturen has maintained workshops and specialists devoted to the conservation and restoration of ethnographic objects. Their expertise enables them to handle materials such as wood, ceramic, metal, paper and textiles. Not infrequently, objects consist of a mix of completely different organic and inorganic materials. The work of the restorers-conservators demands immense knowledge and experience as well as the utmost care in dealing with ageing cultural treasures. The conservation work carried out on objects is documented in photographs and in writing. Interested in a glance behind the scenes? This can be arranged by appointment. |
