The Museum der Kulturen's Education Service is a forum of exchange, offering to the public in-depth and expert knowledge on a broad variety of subject matters. It also provides the opportunity to learn more and discuss about selected topics in a personal atmosphere. Guided tours and workshops are designed with a particular focus and geared towards specific target groups, in line with the needs and wishes of the visitors to the museum.
The Museum der Kulturen is an urban meeting point, a nexus for personal encounters and discovering new things, and a place for experiencing and talking about objects, their meanings and their significance in an ongoing discourse with, and on, the 'Other'. The Museum der Kulturen's Education Service offers a wide range of formats of cultural and educational events for diverse target groups.
We offer activities and tours for schools as well as consultative discussions for teachers, and also operate a regular programme of educational tours and workshops connected with the museum. Worksheets provide tips and information on how teachers can work with their classes within the museum and on how they can structure their lessons. Educational tours are free of charge for schools located in cantons Basel-Stadt and Basel-Land. For school classes from other cantons and from abroad, a charge of CHF 180.- is made. Application: (at least 14 days in advance). The museum sets up 'hands-on' educational collections: some of which can also be lent out to schools in the form of a «Museum in a Suitcase» that brings the museum right into the classroom. |
