For a long time, the relationship between humans and animals was unequal, with humans representing the far superior beings. This view has changed. In coexistence, animals are now regarded as consciously acting beings that co-shape human life. In a joint project, four Basel museums address the question of the relationship between humans and animals from different perspectives. The Museum der Kulturen Basel focuses on what influence animals have on different spheres of human life in a wide range of cultures.
