Moments of remembering and forgetting
7 March 2021, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The exhibition playfully reveals practices with which people commemorate important moments in life, but quickly also forget about them again. From birth to death, significant events are passed down by word of mouth, chiselled in stone, or, as the case may be, kept secret.

Arranged in five groups, objects held by MKB are juxtaposed with works from the Kunstmuseum, revealing how humans shape the world they inhabit and how, in turn, they themselves are shaped by it. The guided tour explores the traces of this interrelationship.

Making the World

Lived Worlds

26 March 2021 - 23 January 2022

The Museum der Kulturen Basel and the Kunstmuseum Basel jointly explore the theme “the human making of the world”. For its part, the Museum der Kulturen Basel focuses on how humans and their environment are intertwined.  Arranged into five groups, exhibits from the two museums engage in a dialogue with each other. They inspire visitors to reflect on the incredible diversity of human creativity and reveal how the creators are rooted in their environment.
