Collection For decades now, South-East Asia - or more precisely Indonesia - has been one of the main areas of the museum's collecting and research activities. Collections concentrate on eastern Indonesia and for many decades researchers have focussed on the island of Bali. Indeed, three generations of Basel scholars have made the Museum der Kulturen a leading centre for research relating to Bali.
