In the heart of Basel, just a stone’s throw away from the Minster, is the museum bistro Rollerhof. You can relax in peace and quiet in the inner courtyard. The premises are also available for rent for special occasions.
Mentioned in documents for the first time in 1355, the ‘Rollerhof’ building reflects many centuries of Basel’s history. Owners have included the Cathedral Chapter, Basel mayors and factory owners, but also a banker to the Austro-Hungarian Imperial court. In around 1667, picturesque wooden bowers were erected in the inner courtyard, while a hundred years later, stucco ceilings were added to the rooms in keeping with the fashionable Rococo style of the period. The sensitive renovation work carried out by the architects Diener & Diener in 2000 achieved the present-day harmony between the modern restaurant and the historic parts of the building.
