Collection Although no scientific expeditions travelled to Africa before 1950, the museum regularly acquired exhibits from every part of that continent. In 1981 it received the collection of the Basel Mission (mission 21) on permanent loan. Regional focal points include western and Central Africa: some groups dating from the 19th century include some outstanding works of art. West-African textiles form an important focal point of this collection which numbers over 2000 exhibits. |
