The former permanent exhibition entitled «Pyramids and Pile Dwellings» has been closed on account of infrastructure-related activities and renovation work. However, parts of the museum's Egyptian collection are shown in the Antikenmuseum Basel.
Collection
The museum's founders were not just interested in the ethnology of their own period. Remains from distant times - excavations from Europe as well as finds from overseas - were close to the hearts of enthusiasts such as Paul and Fritz Sarasin. Interest such as theirs gave birth to an extensive collection of items from Europe's past as well as many significant pieces from Ancient Egypt, these exhibits having been assembled through purchase, exchange and excavation work.
